This project aims to develop a 3D geological model of the natural environment and tectonic configuration off the PACA coastline to a depth of 2-3 km, from Cannes to the Italian border and up to 35 km from the coast.
The area covered is subject to natural hazards (earthquakes, landslides due to gravity, tsunamis).
The MALICA project is at the top of the risk analysis chain and provides accurate 3D geological models (vertical resolution of 5-20 m and horizontal of 50-400 m) of the sea bed.
The distribution of faults, the location of actual and potential landslide areas, the type and thickness of mobile sediment, are all required to develop these analysis and risk modelling programmes in the region.
