Biodiversity of Aquatic Protists
Planktonic microbes are the basis of aquatic ecosystems.
Recent studies suggest that within this great morphological diversity, there is an even more important genetic diversity, revealing the presence of cryptic species (morphologically similar but genetically different) that can be adapted to specific ecological niches. The project should improve understanding of the adaptation, speciation and ecology of aquatic protists.
