Being strongly dependent on maritime imports, Australia invests in logistics and port infrastructure, as well as in the ship repair and shipbuilding sector. Australia has strong needs in terms of surveillance and maritime safety, as its maritime search and rescue zone covers a 10th of the Earth’s surface.
Although the Australian economy has suffered from the COVID-19 crisis, the Australian maritime giants (ASC, Austral, Incat Tasmania, Civmec) have internalized the need for diversification and positioning on innovative markets (IoT, autonomous systems, data analysis).
French companies benefit from an important foothold in the Australian market thanks to the submarine delivery contract won by Naval Group. Thales is also present on the market. French skills and knowledge in naval defense is highly recognized.
Since 2018, the Pôles organize with their partners an accelerator program for SMEs looking to develop in Australia: The Maritime Connection Days.
Over the course of 2021-2022, the Pôle will support 6 European SMEs in their development in Australia, within the scope of the SPACE2WAVES project.
