This past 8 to 10 September, 150 persons attended a meeting held in Marseilles on “Global Changes: interactions between man and the marine environment” under the auspices of the French-Japanese Oceanography Society and the Oceanology Center of Marseilles. The challenge was to compare the expertise of these two world leaders. The main themes dealt with coastal area management (development, aquaculture, reefs, etc.).During this symposium, partnerships between France and Japan were reinforced. A twinning agreement was signed between the Aix-Marseille University of the Mediterranean and the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMST). The possibility of holding a joint seminar in Marseilles on the topic of future ports is being explored. Moreover, the Euro-Japanese symposium on "innovative eco-technologies" will be held in Lyon this coming December (Dec. 2 - 3), during Pollutec 2008, with the participation of the Brittany and PACA Marine Clusters. The next and 14th oceanography symposium will be held in Kobé, in October 2010, in the framework of Technocéan.
