Launching of the RATCOM project

On 16 December 2008, the RATCOM Kick-Off Meeting gathered together in Sophia Antipolis,Thales-Alenia Space and its 17 partners.
RATCOM, selected by the Single Inter-Ministerial Fund (FUI) and co-recognized by the PACA, Risk and Secured Solutions (SCS) Marine Clusters, will elaborate, within 30 months, a tsunami warning network demonstrator.
For this demonstrator, the challenges are linked to the performances of its two components: those of the upwards component, for the acquisition of reliable data in an extremely short period of time, and those of the downwards component for the mastery of the dissemination of the tsunami alert.RATCOM is part of the French initiative in the Ligurian Sea of the UNESCO programme dedicated to an operational network for an early tsunami warning in the Mediterranean. This project is mentioned in Senator Courtaud’s report addressing the risk of tsunamis.
