This past 30 September, the PACA Marine Cluster held its strategic seminar focused on maritime safety and security, with the ambitious aim of initiating structuring programmes revolving around these issues. This seminar was held as a follow-up to a call for projects, launched by the Marine Cluster at the beginning of the summer, for its members. The 18 project proposals submitted were presented by their respective project holders to the 51 seminar attendees. Each project was presented and documented by the respective project holder, thus facilitating the establishment of new partnerships. The PACA Marine Cluster strategy should cover the broad range of requirements of the French Navy and the Maritime Prefecture faced with the challenge of maritime protection, mainly concerning the fight against drug trafficking and seaborne piracy. This seminar proved to be an ideal forum for dialogue and work amongst the various industrial groups, SMEs and research laboratories. Some highlights of the seminar: the successful call for projects, the diversity of subjects dealt with and concrete prospects for future partnerships. More than a successful event, this seminar provides a methodology and format that could be replicated by the Cluster.
