Abyssea, innovation for sustainable deep offshore development
Abyssea, a start-up founded in November 2010, is responsible for first creating and then managing the Centre for Deepwater Expertise and Trials (CEEMP) based on the Ile du Levant (Var).
Abyssea, founded on 19th November 2010, is responsible for the design, studies, manufacture, assembly, installation and operation of underwater testing and demonstration stations. Its R&D activities will underpin development and continued quality of service. The centre will consist of two underwater platforms, at depths of 1,300 and 2,400 metres respectively, providing broadband communications and up to several hundred kW of electricity. The platforms will open up major perspectives for the offshore oil and gas industries. With the aid of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations and a core group of SMEs, the PACA Marine Cluster was successful with its response to the government/CDC call for projects involving technology innovation platforms. Abyssea’s CEEMP will be a world first, unparalleled of its kind, used to trial equipment and procedures for the exploration and exploitation of the deep offshore environment, with the aim of improving safety and contributing to the sustainable development of resources.
