NAOS, a project for the future

As part of the Investments for the Future programme, the NAOS project is one of the successful respondents to the “Equipment of Excellence” call for projects. Backed by oceanographic institute IFREMER, NAOS (Novel ArgoOcean observing System) aims to consolidate and enhance France’s contribution to the worldwide Argo network, which currently consists of 3,000 robotic floats used to measure water temperature and salinity to depths of up to 2,000 metres. NAOS will contribute to more reliable prediction of the consequences of climate change. As well as the PACA region, Brittany and the Ile de France (Paris region) are also involved in the project.
